About the Old Bucktails

Individual Soldier Accounts including
War Time Correspondents

Listed below are several accounts written by actual participants in the Civil War.  These first person accounts have been recreated on these web pages but have not been modified in any way.  If there were spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, these errors have been retained in the below cited items.  Hopefully this will allow you to read that actual account but also get some basic understanding of the educational level of the author.  The list includes letters, diary entries,  articles written for newspapers and magazines,  and some full text manuscripts.

Since various documents may fall under more than one category, I have included the source under each category. For example, the Bucktail Regimental History written by Thomson and Rauch will appear as a  Regimental history under the regimental section but since it was also written by an actual participant of the Civil War, it will also appear under Individual Soldier Accounts.   This is certainly not an effort to make the various  lists appear larger than they actually are but rather to list sources accurately for the researcher and historian among you.
